Absorbed.
Totally and completely.
Kind of obsessed.
And surprisingly so.
I was sure I would never do it, but…

This held my attention like nothing I’ve read in a long time. Actually since before I had kids – so it’s been at least 10 years since I’ve enjoyed a book this much.
Twilight. And the books to follow.
I was so vehemently dead set against succumbing to the fascination with this series.
Even though all those around me raved and raved. I was offered the book on numerous occasions by friends and always turned it down.
So one day, a good friend at work, Lisa D., insisted that I would love the story and placed the book on my chair when I wasn’t looking. It then sat on my kitchen shelf for 2 weeks. Andrew even commented on its arrival. He said a few of his friends were talking about it. He’s in 5th grade. He said it would be the biggest book he’s read if he picked it up and read it. I said, go for it. I’m not reading it any time soon.
Fast forward to last week. Ran around like a nut for three days.
Then on Thursday Caroline had her adenoid surgery .... yeah, that’s another post for another time but the running around sums it up (we found out about this on Monday and days later were in the hospital). Remember, we’re talking my latest obsession right now.
I tucked the book in my bag as we headed out Thursday morning. Her procedure was 25 minutes long. I checked e-mails and Facebook for the first 20 minutes then decided to open Twilight.
I read a couple of chapter while she was easing out of the anesthesia. “Not bad – long, but I’ll stick with it” is all I thought. Picked it up again Thursday night when she was snoozing on my arm.
Read a bit more here and there on Friday as she was curled up on my lap or while I was eating lunch or when I was standing at the bus stop waiting for the boys.
Finished it off on Saturday when Andrew & I were have a lazy, reading – Nintendo DS (for him) kind of day. Lina was hanging out with Daddy and Ben was playing with Lauren.
I couldn’t focus on anything but the story. Every time I tried to put it down, it pulled me back. I even read it as I was stirring our dinner on the stove.
Yep, that good.
And who would’ve thought I would enjoy a story about a vampire?
I’m not a sci-fi girl. I hate to be scared and it doesn’t take much to do that to me. I cannot watch any true life crime shows without totally freaking myself out.
Okay, it’s not really about a vampire. It’s definitely more of a love story and not science fiction in the traditional sense. And I became totally and completely obsessed.
As in – I polished off the nearly 500-page book (and chapter preview of the next one) in 2 days. No easy feat with 3 kids and a ton of crap to do. I just couldn’t put it down.
It’s amazing. So good. Kind of sad to be finished with the first one, but I know there are more to come.
Ah, yes, and my good friend, Lisa D., has graciously agreed to bring in #2 tomorrow.
So I guess it’s goodbye to housework, laundry and sleep … hello, again, Edward & Bella!
