The first full weekend after the New Year and where was I? Scrap, scrap, scrappin' in Gettysburg with this crew:
Ruth (my bff), me, Carolyn (Elisa's sister-in-law) and Elisa (good friend & co-worker). Elisa & Carolyn had been to this crop before. It was just the 4 of us and 500 people we didn't know! :) It was a fun, productive weekend filled with a scrapbook store trip, Friendly's ice cream, great 80's tunes, lots of laughter and little sleep!
In case you haven't figured out, it was a pirate theme. We don't really get too much into the craziness. This is about it - Elisa got all of us t-shirts, and I picked up the eye patches and ear [nose] rings. We also had a couple of the grow your own pirates in water bottles on our tables, but we didn't really partake in the goofy slumber party activities. We just scrapped away singing 80's tunes and getting sillier by the hour!
The funniest thing, hands down, had to be this:
Can you read the can? It's a trash can that someone labeled "INEDIBLE". Seriously, has it come to this? We now have to label trash cans? That's just ridiculous. I thought the McDonald's thing was ridiculous when they started it with having to label the coffee cups, "contents are hot - use caution to avoid burn" or whatever that said. Ridiculous that people can sue over their own stupidity. We loved the trash can so much, that it even got it's very own photo. And yes, it probably will get its own spread in a scrapbook one day!
Before leaving home, I realized that I am NOT an event scrapper. To the point that I have not scrapbooked a single Christmas since I've been married. A page or two here or there, but not a complete Christmas. I took 10 years worth of Christmas photographs and every Christmas paper and embellishment I could get my hands on. That was my project for the weekend. Truly an impossible feat!
This is what I came home with:
Five Christmases down! Half to go! I got finished 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2007! (Yeah I skipped ahead a few years since I had actually started 07 at one point!) From about 10:00 pm Friday evening til 1:00 pm on Sunday, I completed 54 12x12 scrap pages! Hooray! I had done 6 pages when I was off the week between Christmas & New Year's, so I feel like I'm on a good pace to get a lot done this year! I never kept track of how many pages I scrapped last year, but I'm going to try this year. We'll see.
Here's a few:
Andrew's first concert above! Andrew's first Christmas at right! I love the retro looking Christmas paper lines. I really stocked up when everything went on sale this year, especially after I realized I had 10 years of photos to scrap. Kind of funny. You can look at my photos and tell exactly when we switched from film to digital and then from regular digital to SLR digital. Scary how your photos increase. And then we started talking about our childhood. Remember when your parents used a 110 film camera and you were lucky to get an entire 12 exposure roll of pictures for your birthday party? And then didn't get developed for a long time because you had to send them away to the photo lab? Better yet, remember the old photo kiosks in the middle of the parking lot?
I managed to pick up these little gems to use for the next five years of Christmas pictures at Target last weekend. Yeah, I was supposed to only be there buying household cleaning items, but I had to walk through the stationery section to get to check out, so I found this:
Two embellishment kits from Making Memories. The FaLaLa line. The first one to the left was a little kit containing 64 glitter "clears", self-adhesive embellies. They smell - seriously, they stink, but they are oh so cute and vintage looking. The second kit contained 271 pieces - buttons, die-cut shapes, die-cut alphas and printed blooms. Loving the little die-cut word definitions. I am inspired to get back into Christmas and finish it up. Of course, this means I need to buy some more albums to house everything. Going to stick with the American Crafts D ring albums. Loving them!
My favorite Christmas layout, so far, is the only one I've done with 2008 photos. It's the photo we used for our Christmas card and it truly captures my children's personalities as my Dad pointed out:
Andrew's in the middle, just chilling out, going with the flow.
Benjamin's philosophy is, I'll do it if I have to, but do I really have to?
And we all know, Caroline is here for the party .... in fact, sometimes she IS the party!
Everything is put back in its place in the scrap room and I'm ready for some scrappy goodness this week!
We had some snow this past Monday, so I'll have photos of our boulder and snowman coming soon!
Happy Weekend!
